St Lawrence College returns to OCAA Volleyball

St. Lawrence College Surge is proud to announce the addition of Men's & Women's Varsity Volleyball programs, starting in the fall 2025-2026 OCAA season. This announcement marks the return of St. Lawrence College to varsity volleyball, having last played in the OCAA back in the 1997-98 season.

St. Lawrence College is excited to announce the appointment of Todd Collard as Head Coach of the St. Lawrence Surge Men’s Volleyball program, launching for the 2025-2026 OCAA season.
Bringing over 35 years of coaching experience across three provinces, including collegiate coaching, high-performance club leadership, and a lifelong commitment to athlete development, Todd is a respected and passionate leader in the volleyball community.
“I’m beyond excited to be the new coach of the SLC Surge Men's Volleyball program! Stepping into this role feels like a dream come true. My goal is to foster a growth mindset in student-athletes to help them overcome obstacles and reach their full potential—on and off the court,” said Collard
Todd’s resume reflects deep roots in both the competitive and educational aspects of sport. He served as Head Coach for John Abbott College Men’s Volleyball (RSEQ/CCAA) and has coached with multiple elite clubs, including the Kingston Rock, Pegasus, and Belleville Ravens. He is also a longtime high school coach and former Athletic Director at Napanee District Secondary School.
His coaching philosophy centers on ethical leadership, attention to detail, and creating a positive and developmental athlete experience. Known for high—but realistic—expectations, Todd is committed to building a culture of excellence, retention, and long-term success.

Women's Volleyball News
St. Lawrence College is proud to welcome Ryan Stoness as the new Head Coach of the St. Lawrence Surge Women’s Volleyball program, set to launch in the upcoming 2025-2026 OCAA season. With over two decades of coaching experience, Coach Stoness brings a proven track record of program building, athlete development, and competitive success. Most recently, he spent seven seasons with the Loyalist Lancers, where he led the women’s program to a historic first-ever OCAA medal, while also collecting multiple athlete awards at the OCAA and CCAA levels and celebrating outstanding academic achievements among his athletes.
“I’m keen to get started,” said Coach Stoness. “Although we have a lot of work to do in a short time to launch this program, I’m so grateful for the amazing coaches and athletic staff who have worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality. Turning dreams into reality—this is what coaching is about.”
Known for his deep ties to both the local and provincial volleyball communities, Coach Stoness emphasizes a “team over me” approach and is passionate about creating a positive, structured, and development-focused environment for student-athletes. His coaching philosophy is built on holistic development, fostering relationships, and cultivating high volleyball IQ and strong team systems.
“Helping young athletes achieve their dreams of playing post-secondary volleyball is one of the most rewarding parts of the job,” said Stoness. “There’s a bright future ahead for Women’s Volleyball at SLC, and I have no doubt that the Surge will thrive.”
