OVA MANDATORY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

​All athletes have the right to a safe, inclusive and responsible volleyball experience. As people in positions of authority, referees have an important role to play in providing this type of environment. Referees have the responsibility to:

​

  • Complete the necessary training in order to provide an environment that is physically, mentally, emotionally and socially safe for all athletes and participants

  • Complete the necessary training in order to provide a responsible safe environment that incorporates Volleyball Canada’s teaching methodologies, technical guidelines and long-term athlete development principles

  • Ensure that all of their referee training is current so as to be able to provide a safe and responsible volleyball experience for all​

All individuals involved with youth athletes must complete these requirements prior to their registration as an OVA member in a Referee role. These requirements apply to all individuals, regardless of certification status, experience or years of involvement.

ABIDE BY THE OVA SCREENING POLICY

 

  • POLICE RECORD CHECK

    • Frequency: Every 3 years​

    • All OVA referees, 18 years of age or older, are required to submit a police check every three years. This must be either an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) or a Level 2 Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) from your local police. ​​

    • Referees under the age of 18:When completing your MRS registration, you will not be able to continue without clicking the Police Record Check Acknowledgment box.  Per the direction of Kelvin Cheng, OVA Manager Operations, simply check the box and when the OVA reviews your membership and age, they will know you do not need one yet.

    • myBackCheck (E-PIC)

      • Referees are encouraged to apply using the OVA-specific myBackCheck link provided above. 

      • Not only is it generally faster and cheaper, but the results can be easily shared directly to the OVA office.  ​

    • Kingston Police

    • Ontario Provincial Police​​​

  • OVA SCREENING DISCLOSURE FORM

    • Frequency: Annually

    • During your annual MRS Registration, you will be asked to complete the OVA's screening form which will ask you to attest that you have read and understood the OVA's Screening form and the Rowan's Law Resources provided below.​​

    • This is a Pan-Canadian Policy applicable to Volleyball Canada and the Provincial / Territorial Associations.​

  • COMPLIANCE

    • Comply with further steps under the OVA Screening Policy as necessary

REQUIRED TRAINING

 

* As officials, many of you may not have an NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) number.
